The 2021 edition in this country had the participation of a thousand student teams, 235 more than the previous year.
The Global Management Challenge is growing in India. After 765 student teams and three staff participated in the 2020 edition, that number rose to 1,000 students and 32 staff last year. The local organization wants to reach two thousand teams this year. In India, the competition is divided into two championships, one contested by students and the other by cadres.
Lav Agarwal, organizer of the competition in this country, says that this model will continue in the 2022 edition. “We hope to have the participation of at least two thousand teams this year and 75 higher education institutions”, he stresses.
The team that won the 2021 edition of the student championship is made up of students from the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIMK — Indian Institute of Management). For Tinish Gupta, from the winning team, “this competition develops technical and behavioral skills. We make strategic decisions in various domains, such as marketing or finance, which helps us to interact with multiple areas of the company”. He also adds that in competition they have to deal with different points of view and manage conflicts between the various team members.
Debashis Chatterjee, director of the IIMK, believes that the victory of his students in this competition reveals the quality of their training. In his opinion, “the Global Management Challenge is an interactive and innovative platform that develops and tests knowledge and skills and allows participants to have a broader and more strategic vision of a company. We will continue to encourage our students to participate in competitions like this one”.
